RCEW is assisting the market transition to energy-efficient compact fluorescent lamps by conducting residential neighborhood CFL sweeps throughout Humboldt County. As part of RCEW's Residential Direct Install Program, these sweeps offer Humboldt PG&E
customers an opportunity to reduce their energy use through a free CFL "make-over."
If you are using incandescent bulbs in your home, RCEW wants to exchange them for energy-efficient CFL lamps at no cost to you. When an RCEW sweep team visits your home, they will remove as many of your old incandescent bulbs as you wish, and replace them with longer-lasting energy-efficient CFLs. Most standard wattage equivalents are available, as well as some speciality lamps such as decorative globes, floods, and LED night lights. Energy-and-water saving faucet aerators are also available for free.

RCEW is working its way through neighborhoods throughout the county (see map below). As of August 2010 we have installed over 43,000 CFLs in at least 3,500 homes.
Several days before our sweep teams visit a neighborhood, an advance team places door hangers to let residents know we are coming. Keep a lookout for them (see sample at left).
You can help your make-over to go faster if you have your PG&E account number handy (it's on your monthly bill), and know which lights you would like us to upgrade. Also, please note, at this time we cannot install CFLs in fixtures with dimmers.
On sweep days, look for our orange-vested sweepers, with their red CFL carts. All RCEW sweep team members will have an RCEA ID badge. If you have any quesitons or concerns about these CFL sweeps, please call (707) 269-1700.
