Energy Tip:
Did you know the Redwood Coast Energy Authority has a lending tool library where you can check out a Watts Up meter for free?

As part of an energy-efficiency program known as the Redwood Coast Energy Watch, Pacific Gas and Electric Company and the Redwood Coast Energy Authority have been working together to help make your holidays a little greener. Humboldt PG&E customers can save energy and money by participating in the annual holiday light exchange event where they can receive a free energy-efficient multi-color 70-lamp LED holiday light string for each functioning traditional holiday light string they turn-in.
LED lights can save up to 90% of the electricity that is needed to power conventional holiday lights. This lower use of electricity by LEDs means less carbon emissions, making them more environmentally friendly. They are also more durable, and can last longer than conventional lights, meaning they don’t need to be replaced as often. LEDs are safer because they generate much less heat when they operate, and are cool to the touch, reducing fire danger.

Through the Redwood Coast Energy Watch, Humboldt residents can receive free energy-efficient LED mini-lights during the annual exchange. In recent years, the holiday light exchange has taken place at the Humboldt Artisans Craft & Music Festival at the Redwood Acres Fairgrounds in Eureka.
Check RCEA's on-line calendar in November for the dates, times and locations of this year's holiday light exchange.
