Green House Gas Reduction Program

Helping local jurisdictions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, "Climate change is a problem that is affecting people and the environment. Greater energy efficiency and new technologies hold promise for reducing greenhouse gases and solving this global challenge."

  • Assembly Bill 32: read about the Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006, which proposes that California reduce its greenhouse gas emissions to 1990 levels by 2020, and 80% of 1990 levels by 2050.
  • Carbon Footprint Calculator: Check your personal carbon footprint, using a calculator adjusted for Humboldt County.
  • ICLEI- Local Governments for Sustainability: ICLEI was founded in 1990 as the 'International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives'. It has grown to an association of nearly 1200 local government members who are committed to sustainable development.
