Programs

RCEA’s mission is to develop & implement sustainable energy initiatives that reduce energy demand, increase energy efficiency, and advance the use of clean, efficient & renewable resources available in the region.

The Redwood Coast Energy Authority continuously monitors for new opportunities that we feel best support and promote our mission. Some of our current initiatives include:

Redwood Coast Energy Watch (RCEW), a partnership between Pacific Gas & Electric and the Redwood Coast Energy Authority to offer comprehensive locally-based energy efficiency services in Humboldt County. This program provides education, incentives, and project management to help clients save energy and lower their costs.

Humboldt Non-Profit Energy Efficiency Program, a special RCEW campaign that matches utility incentives with funds from various foundations. Eligible Humboldt non-profit facilities can receive up to 100% of costs for their energy efficiency improvement projects.

Fluorescent Take-It-Back Program, which encourages recycling spent fluorescent lamps and helps the community to establish and find appropriate fluorescent recycling centers.

Humboldt Green Building Program, a joint project of RCEA and Plan It Green, is a county-wide program to offer practical design guidelines, information, and resources for home owners and builders.

Renewable Energy Secure Communities, a pilot study funded by a California Energy Commission grant, to research and propose methods for Humboldt County to generate 75-100% of local energy requirements with renewable resources.

Green House Gas Reduction program, which assists local jurisdictions to analyze, plan, implement, and monitor greenhouse gas reduction measures.

Humboldt General Plan Update, which includes an Energy Element to provide goals, policies, standards, and implementation measures that strive for sustainable renewable energy and self-sufficiency.
